Excieptional,
unique, full collection of all 17 greek olympic medalists of 2004 olympic games
in Athens. Consisted of full sheets of 20 stamps each, uncut, unopened, undamaged
all printed and issued (stamped)in Thessaloniki-Greece. This makes it even more
rare because only 500 copies where issued for each medalistin Thessaloniki. What
makes it even more special and rare is the fact that it also contains the
bronze weight lifting medalist Leonidas Sabanis sheet. It is well known that
the medal was removed from Sabanis due to positive dopping control. This
concluded to the withdraw of most of Sabanis stamps from the post office.Only
few Sabanis stamps ever reached the market in Thessaloniki
and propably none of them is in a sheet of 20 with the specific Thessaloniki
characteristic stamp. Each of the 17 values
was printed in A4 format sheets(20 stamps each). The A4 sheet was vertically
perforated in the middle, to be easily separated in two identical A5 format
miniature sheets( 10 stamps each) and be offered to the public. Different printings
took place (local and national digitaland offset ).The values reffered above
are local (Thessaloniki).
Sabanis stamp (2315) was placed in circulation on 17.8.2004 (local digital), on
18.8.2004 (national digital) and 20.8.2004(offset).Sales where suspended at
3:00 pm on 23.8.2004.
